A video clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the Indian diaspora in Auckland, New Zealand, is being widely shared on social media. It is claimed that during his speech, Modi stated that "India is the largest producer of beef in the world."

On July 11, 2026, Narendra Modi addressed Indians living in New Zealand in a community event held at Spark Arena in Auckland.

An X user, Karbari Ansari (@karbari_ansari), shared the purported video and wrote that PM Modi had proudly proclaimed that India was the world’s largest beef producer. (Archive)

Narendra Modi ji Garv se Bata rahe hain ki Aaj duniya Ka Bharat Desh Sabse bada beef Producers hain..

Agar beef Production par garv kiya ja sakta hai to Phir isi mudde Par nafrat Phaila kar begunah logon ka khoon kyun bahaya gaya? pic.twitter.com/HlSwSUPkxr

Several other users, such as Adv Ananda Das, (Archive), Shree Ram Reddy (Archive) and Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh Deepak Singh (Archive) shared the same video helping it go viral. Some of them later deleted the posts.

    Fact Check

Alt News carefully analysed the audio, even slowing it down to 0.75x speed for clarity. It is evident that PM Modi stated, "Today, India is the world’s second largest wheat producer." He did not mention the word "beef" anywhere in the speech.

For clarity, the video clip is provided below at 0.75x speed.

The full video can be viewed here. The wheat remark can be heard at the 32.35-minute mark.

The Press Information Bureau released a transcript of the PM's speech. It contains the remark about wheat production. There is no mention of beef.

To sum up, the claim that PM Modi said in Auckland that India was the world’s second largest beef producer is false.
