Social media users have been sharing a video in which a mob can be seen breaking the door of a house with green walls and attacking the people inside with sticks. A photo of Bhimrao Ambedkar can be seen on the wall of the room. Screams and cries can be heard from inside the house. It is being claimed that Muslims attacked Dalits.
Verified X user Acharya Ankur Arya, who runs the propaganda YouTube channel Satya Sanatan and has been found sharing misinformation and communal propaganda on several occasions, shared the video and commented sarcastically, "Ambedkarites are being freed from 5,000 years of slavery by the followers of Mohammed." X handle @sanatan_kannada claimed the video was from West Bengal, where at least three people had been killed in Murshidabad earlier this month when protests against the Waqf Amendment Act turned violent. The tweet was later deleted, but here is an archived link.
Fact Check
A reverse image search using a few frames taken from the viral video led us to a couple of tweets dated March 7, 2025, one by Suraj Kumar Bauddh, the founder of an Ambedkarite social orginazation, and another by Bahujan Samaj Party Rajya Sabha member Ramji Gautam. Both of them wrote that the incident was from Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. Gautam narrated that a group of about 500 miscreants had broken down the doors of Dalit homes and attacked women and children in the Baktara village of Sehore, Madhya Pradesh.
On the basis of the above information we performed relevant keyword searches and found a news report uploaded on Zee News' YouTube channel on March 7. In connection with the viral video, the article mentioned that a riot had broken out between the Dalit and Kirar communities in Baktara village in Sehore. Members of the Kirar community had refused to sell goods from their shops to the Dalits, sparking tension in the area. Meanwhile, a youth named Bablesh Chauhan was found dead, which triggered violent clashes between the two groups. The people of the Kirar community suspected that Chauhan had been murdered by Dalits.
The Kirars are a Hindu agricultural community residing in central India, mainly in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
An NDTV report stated, "Two youths, Bablesh Chauhan and Sanjay Ahirwar, got into a fight while drinking. During the fight, the two fought with knives. After this, Sanjay Ahirwar lodged a complaint against Bablesh at Shahganj police station and was admitted to a hospital in Narmadapuram. The next morning, Chauhan's body was found in the village. There were marks of injuries on his body. The news of the youth's death spread unrest in the village."
Chauhan hailed from the Kirar community. Ahriwar was subsequently arrested as prima facie, his stabbing had resulted in Chouhan's death. Police told NDTV that those involved in the vandalism and arson of houses were being identified.
Bhim Army chief and Nagina Lok Sabha member Chandrashekhar Azad criticised the incident. He shared some videos of the incident on X on March 7.
To sum up, a video showing violence that was reported in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore in March between the Dalit and the Kirar communities is being passed off as an incident of Muslims attacking Dalits. Some claimed it was an incident from West Bengal, where anti-Waqf Act protests resulted in violence in Murshidabad district in early April.
