Alt News Exposé II: BJP leaders, OpIndia editor among four who voted in Bihar and in other states

By Abhishek Kumar on 16th November 2025

Days after the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections, Alt News uncovered the case of three voters -- all associated with the BJP -- who voting in Both as well as in some other state. After the second phase, we found at least four more such cases where the name of a voter was listed in more than one state and they voted in more than one state. One of them voted in three states: Bihar, Delhi, and Haryana.

    Case I: Ajit Jha

Ajit Jha, an editor with the Right-wing propaganda outlet OpIndia, posted a photo of himself on social media after voting in the Bihar assembly elections on November 11, 2025. He voted in the Benipatti assembly constituency. Previously, he shared a photo on social media after voting in the Haryana assembly elections on October 5, 2024. He also posted a photo on social media after voting in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections on December 4, 2022.

When we looked for Ajit Jha's name in the voter lists of Delhi (EPIC No. NLN1598663), Haryana (EPIC No. YSN3024619) and Bihar (EPIC No. RYE0513986), we found that his three EPIC numbers were active.

Additionally, we found Ajit Jha's name in the voter lists of Bihar and Haryana. His photos also match in both the places.

Further, we also found the name of Ajit Jha's father, Mithilesh Jha, active in three states with three EPIC numbers -- Bihar (EPIC No. BDK1866706), Haryana (EPIC No. YSN3025145) and Delhi (EPIC No. NLN1598647).

Ajit Jha's wife Swati Jha's name is also active with two EPIC numbers -- Haryana (EPIC No. YSN3024775) and Delhi (EPIC No. NLN2052784).

Ajit Jha's mother, Prema Jha, is also active with two EPIC numbers: Bihar (EPIC No. BDK1866714) and Delhi (EPIC No. NLN1843233). In one voter list, her name is Prem Jha, while in the other, her name is Prema Devi. However, in both, her husband's name is Mithilesh Jha.

The serial numbers of Ajit Jha's family members are close to one another on the voter list.

    Case II: Sanjay Jha

Sanjay Jha, co-convenor of the BJP Delhi hawker cell, posted a photo of himself on social media on November 6, 2025 , stating that he had voted in the Darbhanga Rural assembly constituency. The rural court (gram kachhari) in Tatuar (a village in Manigachi block of Darbhanga district of Bihar) is visible in the background of this photo. Previously, he had posted a photo of himself on February 6, 2025, stating that he had voted in the Delhi assembly elections. Furthermore, he shared a photo on social media after voting in the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi on May 26, 2024. In this post, he listed his polling station as Mahavir Enclave.

We looked for Sanjay Jha's name in the voter lists of Delhi and Bihar and found that he had two active EPIC numbers in Bihar (EPIC No. IXX0632208) and Delhi (EPIC No. RBI0324053). In one, his name is Sanjay Kumar, while in the other, his name is Sanjay Kumar Jha. His father's name is Ramnath Jha in both places.

Both of these details match the photos posted by BJP leader Sanjay Jha on social media. In one post, he posted a photo of himself casting his vote in Tatuar in the Darbhanga Rural assembly constituency. And in the photo he posted of himself casting his vote in Delhi, he himself listed his polling booth address as Mahavir Enclave. Both details indicate Sanjay Jha's father's name as Ramnath Jha.

    Case III: Uday Kumar

A person named Uday Kumar posted a photo of himself on social media after voting in the Bihar assembly elections on November 11, 2025. The image shows Upgraded Middle School, Nawada, in the background. He had previously posted a photo on April 26, 2024, stating that he would vote in the Lok Sabha elections. A review of Uday Kumar's profile reveals that he lives in Bangalore and has posted photos with several BJP leaders.

We looked for Uday Kumar's name in the voter lists of Bihar and Karnataka and found that he had two active EPIC numbers: one in Bihar (EPIC No. UAO0928291) and the other in Karnataka (EPIC No. SOH4526935). One shows his father's name as Bhuneshwar Singh, while the other shows his father's name as B P Singh.

Both of these details match the photos posted by Uday Kumar on social media. While one post shows him casting his vote in Bihar, the background shows (Upgraded Middle School, Ber…, Nawada), his voter list in Bihar lists his polling booth as Upgraded Middle School, Berauta.

The photo Uday Kumar posted after casting his vote in the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, 2024, verified with Google Maps, matches Allwyn Public School in Bangalore. This is also the polling booth on his voter list.

Apart from this, we also found Uday Kumar's photo in the voter lists in Bihar and Karnataka and the two photos are of the same individual.

    Case 4: Ranjan Thakur

On November 11, 2025, BJP Delhi leader Ranjan Thakur posted a photo of himself on his WhatsApp status after voting in the Bihar assembly elections, stating that he had voted at booth number 158 in the Riga assembly constituency. Previously, on May 25, 2024, he had posted a photo on Facebook claiming he had voted in the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi. He used the hashtag #BJPDelhiKeshavpuram in this post.

Upon looking for Ranjan Thakur's name in the voter lists of Delhi and Bihar, we found that he, too, had two active EPIC numbers: one in Bihar (EPIC No. ZKK1558006) and the other in Delhi (EPIC No. ACB2006435). In one, his name is Ranjan Kumar, while in the other, his name is Ranjan Kumar Thakur. His father's name is Rambhadra Thakur in both places.

Both of these details match photos posted by BJP leader Ranjan Thakur on social media. In his WhatsApp status, he posted a photo of himself casting his vote in Bihar, and in the caption, he mentioned voting at booth number 158 in the Riga assembly constituency. This matches the details on his voter list. Furthermore, in the photo he posted of himself casting his vote in Delhi, he used the hashtag #BJPDelhiKeshavpuram, which matches the details on his voter list. Both details show Ranjan Thakur's father's name as Rambhadra Thakur.
