A video of US President Donald Trump being questioned by a reporter on the new customer service bill is doing the rounds on social media. In response to the question, Trump is heard making some derogatory remarks toward Indians. Trump states that multi-million dollar companies would no longer be able to hide behind email-only customer service, and would now have to hire customer service representatives who spoke proper English, not foreigners with thick accents which were hard to understand. He added further that going forward no Indians would take your calls from India. He also remarked that Indians should get jobs to pick up garbage in their country, as garbage is strewn everywhere in India which Indians did not care about as they dumped a lot of garbage and plastic in the rivers.
X user @__Amoxicillin_ shared the video and called it an insult by Trump toward Indians, adding that Modi had projected himself and Indians in the same way.
Amplifying the same claim, a user named Nasreen Ebrahim tweeted the alleged statement by Trump.

Quote-tweeting Nasreen's post, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "Mr. Narendra Modi, just see what your dear friend Donald Trump thinks of India and Indians. Would you please react? If you cannot, shouldn't your Minister for External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar protest that US President Trump is calling India the most poisonous country in the world?" He later deleted the tweet.

Fact Check
The video appears to be doctored at first glance, as Donald Trump's voice sounds slightly different. The ticker in the video reads "Sobering Satire". Apart from this, the name of the news outlet is mentioned as "Faux News", which is inspired by the logo of the American news channel Fox News and is a distorted and satirical form of the same. 'Faux' also means fake or false.
Besides, the last frame of the video shows credit for performance and impressions given to Michael Clive, who is a professional voice artist.

Alt News performed a keyword search on YouTube, which led us to the Sobering Satire channel, the page which had posted the video in question on January 25, 2025. The description of the video clearly states that the clip is made for satirical purposes. In addition, the video also appears in the Altered or synthetic content category on YouTube. The 'About' section of this channel also states that it makes satire videos.

When we performed another keyword search using related terms on Google, we could not find any recent statement by Donald Trump in which he had made derogatory comments about India as seen in the viral video.
Next, we performed a reverse image search using a frame taken from the viral video. This led us to a video of Donald Trump's statement shared by an American journalist, which had the logo of "Fox News". In this video, the video's background and Trump's attire are similar to the viral video, but his audio and voice are different.
We also came across a longer version of the press conference that matches the viral video. Donald Trump has not talked about India anywhere here. In addition, Trump's voice in this video is also different from the viral video. In other words, this video of Donald Trump was edited and the audio was added to it with lip-sync using the help of artificial intelligence.

To sum up, social media users and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh shared a doctored video of US President Donald Trump believing it to be true, and falsely claimed that he had made derogatory comments about Indians.
