Noida protests: Several unrelated videos shared as scenes of violence during workers’ agitation

By Oishani Bhattacharya on 19th April 2026

In the wake of violent protests by factory workers in Noida over wage hike demands on April 14, social media has been flooded with videos purportedly showing scenes from the unrest. Workers had assembled on April 13 across parts of the city to press their demands, but the situation escalated into clashes, with reports of stone-pelting and arson. As tensions continued over the next few days, three videos are now being widely circulated as visuals from the Noida protests.

    VIDEO I

A 1.14-minute-long clip showing a Uttar Pradesh police vehicle being pelted with stones is viral, and it is being shared by social media users in connection with the Noida protests.

X user MEHMET VEFA DAG (@AFRICANDEMOC) posted the above-mentioned clip on April 14 and claimed that protestors had attacked an Indian armed forces vehicle and critically injured two soldiers. The user also claimed that Indian security sources had apparently said that China and Pakistan were behind the violence that erupted during the protest. (Archive)

Several other users, such as Samajwadi Party leader I P Singh (@IPSinghSp), also posted this clip. (Archive)

    Fact Check

To check if the visuals are from Noida protests, we broke down the clip into multiple keyframes and ran a reverse image search on some of them. This led us to a news report by NDTV from October 21, 2025, which carried the viral clip. The title of the report said, "Video: UP Villagers Throw Stones At Police Van, Shatter Windows, Injure Cops". This makes it clear that the clip is not related to the Noida protests; it is from six months ago.

The report stated that a group of agitated villagers in Gorakhpur pelted stones at a police van after police allegedly failed to register a case against a man accused of murdering an individual named Hanuman following a dispute. The same incident has been cited by several other news outlets in connection with the now-viral video.

Hence, it is clear that the viral clip of people throwing stones at a police vehicle is old and unrelated to the current unrest in Noida.

    VIDEO II

A 9-second clip is being widely shared on social media with the claim that it shows police treating protestors in an inhumane way in Noida. The clip shows a police officer kicking a person into a police vehicle.

Official X page of Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress posted the viral clip on April 14 with a caption in Hindi that said, "Employees in Noida are on strike, and the government is crushing their legitimate demands with such ruthless cruelty! The Noida DM is the daughter of our Gyanesh Ji — will there be any action taken against such police personnel?" (Archive)

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national spokesperson Priyanka Bharti also posted the same clip with the same caption. The post was later deleted. (Archive)

    Fact Check

To verify the authenticity of this claim, we first checked if the video is related to the Noida protests. We broke down the video and ran a reverse image search on some of the keyframes, which led us to a Dainik Bhaskar report from April 11. The report carried the viral video and is titled: "Drunk youth creates ruckus in electric shop, vandalizes: Video of Shahdol police action, accused of kicking".

The same was reported by several other news outlets that used the now-viral clip in their reports. This shows that the above-mentioned video is unrelated to the Noida protests.

    VIDEO III

A six-second clip showing fire billowing out from an area is viral, with users on social media claiming that it shows visuals from the Noida protests.

X user MEHMET VEFA DAG (@AFRICANDEMOC) posted the above-mentioned clip on April 14 with that claim. (Archive)

    — MEHMET VEFA DAG -Cape Town Mayor Candidate (@AFRICANDEMOC) April 13, 2026

Another X user, Anuj Prajapati (@anujprajapati11), also shared the viral clip claiming that the video showed "Noida Sector 62 burning".

Noida Sector 62 is burning pic.twitter.com/WYqY3WjeY6

    — Anuj Prajapati (@anujprajapati11) April 13, 2026

    Fact Check

Upon running a reverse image search on the keyframes of this video, we found that the clip is from an incident that happened in Ambarnath, Maharashtra, in March. We came across a report by Lokmat, which carried a screen grab from the viral clip and mentioned that the fire broke out in the Anand Nagar MIDC area in a chemical factory.

Below, we have marked the similarities between the viral clip and the screengrab used by Lokmat in their report.

Hence, it is clear that the viral clip is unrelated to the Noida protests and predates it.

To sum up, none of these three viral videos has anything to do with the Noida protests.
