Fact Check
While playing the video, at 35-36 second mark, at the bottom right corner of the video, one can see a boom used by the news media. The boom belongs to 'Kaler Kantho'- a major Bengali-language daily newspaper.

Also at the 28 second mark, the video shows the hoarding of a shop called 'Khan Bastro Bitan'. The hoarding contains a name- Abdul Kuddus Khan, and a contact number. The first two digits of the contact number is 01, which is the country code for Bangladesh for in-country calling.

Along with that, the hoarding of 'Khan Bastro Bitan' mentions Dhaka, Mirpur-1216, which is the postal code for the Mirpur suburb of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Just beneath the hoarding, a youth can be seen standing, wearing the jersey of Bangladesh Cricket Team.
As we became sure that this video is from Bangladesh, we did a keyword search on Google, using the keywords- 'Home demolished eviction drive Bangladesh family in tears'. We typed this keyword in Bengali and came across a video posted by a Facebook-based news portal 'Sobar Kantha'.
'Sobar Kantha' posted the now viral video on their Facebook page on May 20, 2026. The caption of the video says: Entire family breaks down in tears as their house is demolished.

'Sobar Kantha' posted a series of short videos covering the May 20 incident. The unconsolable man seen in the viral video is also seen in another video posted on that day, further proving that the now viral video is indeed from Bangladesh, showing the plight of the people whose properties are getting demolished in the name of illegal eviction drive.

In another video, which more or less covers the same moments of the now viral video, the address of 'Khan Bastro Bitan' can be read very clearly. The address of the shop, written in Bengali, reads as: Bauniabandh Tinshed Colony Bazar, Mirpur, Dhaka- 1216.

Bauniabandh is a locality in the Mirpur suburb of Dhaka.
Additionally, using reverse image search, we came across the same video, published by an You Tube Channel called 'Dhaka Teligram' on May 20, 2026.
Bangladesh based Ekattor TV also covered the news. According to their news report, a scuffle broke out between the police and the slum dwellers of Bauniabandh area of Mirpur, Dhaka, on May 20, as the police tried to demolish structures without issuing prior eviction notices. This information corroborates with the address seen on the hoarding of 'Khan Bastro Bitan'.
In conclusion, a video from Bangladesh is circulating on social media, falsely claiming to represent demolition of illegal Bangladeshi slums in West Bengal.
