Stalin on December 23, 2021 launched Meendum Manjappai Yojana to promote usage of cloth bags by public. Through this initiative, CM wants to discourage the use of plastic bags which have become rampant in the state over the years. Contending that usage of single-use-plastic is harmful to environment, Mr. MK Stalin called upon the people to completely reduce its usage. Tamil Nadu Meendum Manjappai Scheme 2022Tamil Nadu CM M.K Stalin launches TN Meendum Manjappai Scheme in Kalaivanar Arangam. CM MK Stalin recalled how long ago yellow-coloured cloth bags were symbolic of auspicious occasion but eventually plastic bags replaced them. He also listed out harmful effects of single-use plastic products and highlighted the need for replacing plastic bags with cloth bags.Discouraging Use of Plastic Bags in TN Meendum Manjappai YojanaWhile launching the Tamilnadu Meendum Manjappai Yojana, CM reiterated that "If plastics are thrown away, it would take several years for it to decompose. It adversely affects the soil quality, air quality and water bodies.Soil Pollution due to Single Use Plastic Usage in TamilnaduSoil Pollution is caused when people throw plastic bags in open fields or agricultural lands. If the soil is affected, agriculture would be affected which directly affects life of people. Moreover, cattle eat plastics and die. Through TN Meendum Manjappai Scheme, govt. will promote use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags which are easy to decompose and will prevent soil pollution. Water Pollution through Plastic Bags in TN StateCM MK Stalin pointed out that if plastic carry bags are thrown into waterbodies, then the organisms present there are affected and the water is polluted too. He added that the sea is affected when single-use plastic products are thrown into it and aquatic species feed on them and die. Through Tamil Nadu Meendum Manjappai Scheme, govt. will promote use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags which will prevent water pollution and thus save life of aquatic animals. Air Pollution by Plastic Bags in Tamil NaduToxic chemicals emanate from burning single-use plastic products and they affect the air quality, Mr. Stalin said. So, considering the extent of its damage to the environment, CM appealed to citizens to stop the use of plastics.Thus it can be inferred that in order to prevent soil pollution, air pollution, water pollution and to save aqua species, discouraging use of plastic bags is necessary. Encouraging Usage of Cloth BagsTamil Nadu govt. will encourage the usage of cloth bags instead of plastic bags as a part of its Go Green initiative. Those people who does not use cloth bags and still use plastic bags would face consequences. So far, electricity connection to 130 factories have been withdrawn for violating the ban against single-use plastics. CM said that the government alone could not implement this, but the general public should join hands. Each selected author will receive scholarship worth Rs. 50000 per month for a period of 6 months.National Book Trust (NBT) has announced the results of the All India Contest organised on the theme "National Movement of India" under the PM YUVA Mentorship Scheme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programmes. As many as 75 authors under the age of 30 were selected through the contest for a scholarship-cum-mentorship scheme. Out of the 75 selected authors, 38 are males and 37 are females. Further, two are below 15 years, whereas there are 16 authors in the age group of 15-20 years, 32 fall in the age group of 21-25 years, and 25 authors are in the age group of 26-30 years. Yuva Mentoring Young Authors Results AnnouncedDuring the mentorship, the selected authors will receive a scholarship of Rs 50,000 per month for a period of six months. Further, a royalty of 10 per cent will be payable to the authors on successful publications of their books. The selected authors will undergo six months of mentorship in which they would be provided research and editorial support under the guidance of eminent authors and the editorial team of National Book Trust, India.Thereafter, they would develop their book proposals as full-fledged books to be published by the trust as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiatives. Their published books will be later translated into other Indian languages as well.
