A few videos of Tamil Nadu's Vellore Institute of Technology campus are being shared on social media in which a group of people are seen entering the college campus in a car carrying guns. The video also shows people running here and there. It has been claimed that there was a terrorist attack at this institute.
The video was also posted on Facebook with the same claim.
What's the Truth?
To find out the truth behind the alleged videos, we performed a keyword search on Google with terms 'VIT Vellore attack'. We found a report by The Hindu dated March 2, 2025. The article also contains a screenshot from the viral video. In reference to the video, the media outlet reported that the National Security Guard (NSG) had conducted a mock drill on March 2 at the VIT campus.
Speaking to The Hindu, superintendent of police N Mathivanan stated that the NSG along with special task force commandos of the Tamil Nadu Police and the district police had conducted a three-hour mock drill in the Silver Jubilee Tower building.
A YouTube channel named Vellore Fort City also posted a video of the mock drill stating that it actually showed a training session by NSG commandos.
To sum up, the people who entered the VIT campus with guns were not terrorists, but commandos who had gone there to conduct a mock drill.
